Cherokee County Inmate Records Overview
The official online starting point for Cherokee County inmate records is the sheriff-linked Cherokee County Zuercher inmate portal. It is built for current and recent local custody records at the Cherokee County Detention Center, not for every person with a court case or every person ever arrested in Cherokee County. The public template shows search filters, result rows, and a mugshot column when a booking image is available.
The Zuercher roster screenshot below shows the official route used for Cherokee County inmate lookup.
Use the roster first for local jail custody, then move to VINE, phone, FOIA, SCDC, BOP, ICE, or U.S. Marshals routing when the result does not match the person being searched.
Cherokee County Detention Center is the only local detention facility identified in the research. It is operated by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and holds county and local inmates awaiting trial, plus inmates serving local sentences of 90 days or less. A longer South Carolina prison sentence moves the search to SCDC, while sentenced federal prisoners, federal pretrial detainees, and immigration detainees use federal systems.
Use Cherokee County Jail Roster
The Cherokee County jail roster works best when the search starts broad and then narrows. The public inmate route shows one name field rather than separate first and last name boxes, so a partial name can be more useful than a guessed full legal name. Race, sex, arrest-date, held-for-agency, and release-date filters can help when common names return too many rows.
- Open the sheriff-linked inmate route or go directly to the Cherokee County Zuercher inmate page.
- Enter the person's name first. Try fewer letters if the spelling is uncertain.
- Add race, sex, arrest date, held-for-agency, or release date only when the first result set is too broad.
- Press Search. Use Reset before starting a new person search so old filters do not hide a match.
- Review the result row for mugshot, name, race, sex, DOB or age, arrest date, held-for-agency, and release date.
- If no row appears, call the jail, check SC VINE, and search the correct state, federal, or immigration locator when the custody type has changed.
New bookings may lag while intake is still under way. The sheriff's detention material describes LiveScan fingerprinting through SLED and FBI systems, with identity and history checks that may return in 15 minutes to one hour.
Cherokee County Roster Search Fields
The roster fields below come from the official public app templates described in the Cherokee County research file. Required status was not stated in the static template, so each field should be treated as optional unless the live app asks for it. Name is still the best first search because it is the broadest field shown.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | Text | Unspecified | Accepts name text in one field; partial spelling may help. |
| Race | Dropdown / combobox | Unspecified | Options load dynamically from the portal. |
| Sex | Dropdown / combobox | Unspecified | Options load dynamically. |
| Arrest Date | Date | Unspecified | Date control handles the live app format. |
| Held For Agency | Dropdown / combobox | Unspecified | Agency list loads dynamically. |
| Release Date | Date | Unspecified | Useful if released entries are exposed. |
| Search / Reset | Buttons | N/A | Search runs the query; Reset clears filters. |
Cherokee County Inmate Record Fields
A Cherokee County inmate record row is a public roster summary, not a full jail file. The extracted template confirms the fields below and shows that charges, bond, housing unit, arresting agency, and court date were not confirmed in the static public row. For court charges after booking, use the Cherokee County public index and court offices rather than the jail roster alone.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Mugshot | Booking image if a public mugshot value exists, or a generic icon if none is shown. |
| Name | The inmate name displayed in the roster row. |
| Race | Race value from the jail management system. |
| Sex | Sex value displayed in the public row. |
| DOB / Age | The template supports either date of birth or age, depending on portal configuration. |
| Arrest Date | Date tied to the custody event in the roster. |
| Held For Agency | Agency responsible for the hold or custody request. |
| Release Date | Release date when the public row includes it. |
| Not confirmed in row | Booking number, charges, bond, housing unit, arresting agency, and court date were not confirmed in the static inmate row. |
Booking data can also differ from court data. Booking is the jail intake event. A charge record may later change when a magistrate, the Clerk of Court, or the Seventh Circuit Solicitor acts on the case.
Cherokee County Booking Intake
Cherokee County booking begins after an arrest or warrant service by sheriff deputies, municipal police, or another agency. Staff enter identity data, capture LiveScan fingerprints, submit prints electronically to SLED and FBI systems, and receive the identity or criminal-history response when it returns. The sheriff's detention page describes a direct-supervision jail, so classification and housing assignment affect where a person is housed and can affect visitation.
After intake, South Carolina bond and first-appearance rules may bring the case before a magistrate or other judicial officer. A bond is a court release condition. A detainer is another agency's hold or request. Either can affect release.
- Booking
- Jail intake after arrest, including identity entry and custody processing.
- Detainer
- A hold or request from another agency that can block release.
- First appearance
- Initial court review where bond or release conditions may be addressed.
- SCDC
- South Carolina Department of Corrections, the state prison system for sentenced prisoners.

Cherokee County Visitation Rules
Visitation details come from the official sheriff visitation policy. The policy does not publish one universal public schedule by weekday. Instead, visits are determined by the inmate's unit assignment and bed number. The same policy states that one visitation hour per week is allowed, four people may be listed on the inmate's visitation sheet, only two listed visitors may visit at one time, and names may be changed each Monday.
| Topic | Official Cherokee County Detail |
|---|---|
| Schedule basis | Determined by unit assignment and bed number. |
| Weekly allowance | One visitation hour per week. |
| Visitor list | Inmate may list four people on a visitation sheet. |
| Visitors at one time | Two listed people may visit at one time. |
| List changes | Visitor names may be changed each Monday. |
| Dress / attire | Appropriate attire required; full dress code was not located in accessible text. |
| ID, child, locker, attorney rules | Not located in the accessible official text reviewed. |
Mail and commissary details are thinner. An official mail-regulations page exists, but accessible text extraction found only the heading. No official commissary vendor, deposit URL, phone provider, or fee schedule was located.
Cherokee County Records Requests
When a booking record, incident report, older jail record, or sheriff record is not available through the roster, the county FOIA process is the documented fallback. Cherokee County states that it complies with South Carolina FOIA and routes sheriff records to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Requests may be submitted through the county's listed email, by mail, or in person. Fees can include staff time and copying, but exact table values did not extract cleanly.
The Cherokee County FOIA page is the official county source for request routing and submission methods.
FOIA is useful for records that are not in the live roster, but law-enforcement records can still be redacted or withheld when South Carolina FOIA exemptions apply.
South Carolina Code Section 30-4-30 gives access to inspect or copy public records subject to exemptions, fees, and deadlines. Section 30-4-50(A)(8) makes certain crime reports public while allowing exempt information to be deleted. Court filings after arrest belong in the court system, not the jail roster.
Cherokee County Custody Access Chain
A Cherokee County inmate records search should follow the custody chain. Start with the county jail roster for current local detention. Search SCDC for state prison, BOP for federal prison, ICE ODLS for immigration custody, and U.S. Marshals routing for federal pretrial custody.
| Custody Type | Where to Search | What It Covers |
|---|---|---|
| County jail custody | Cherokee County Zuercher roster | Pretrial local inmates and short local sentences at the detention center. |
| Phone / in person | Detention center at 864-487-2529 or jail address | Current custody checks when the roster is unclear or delayed. |
| Records request | Cherokee County FOIA | Booking, incident, or older records not shown online, subject to redaction. |
| State prison | SCDC public inmate search | South Carolina sentenced prisoners after transfer from county jail. |
| Federal sentenced prison | BOP inmate locator | People in Federal Bureau of Prisons custody. |
| Immigration custody | ICE Online Detainee Locator System | Detainees in ICE custody, searched by A-Number/country or biographical data. |
| Federal pretrial custody | U.S. Marshals District of South Carolina | Federal holds or pretrial custody that may not appear in BOP. |
Cherokee County State Prison Search
The county roster and the SCDC locator answer different questions. Cherokee County Detention Center holds local pretrial and short-sentence inmates. SCDC is for adult offenders sentenced by South Carolina courts to incarceration longer than the county-jail threshold. SCDC can search by SCDC ID, SID, first name, last name, and phonetic match.
The SCDC incarcerated-inmate search is the correct locator after a Cherokee County case becomes state prison custody.
Search SCDC when the county roster no longer shows the person and the case ended in a South Carolina prison sentence.
No SCDC prison was located inside Cherokee County. The SCDC institutions page lists statewide prisons, including upstate facilities in other counties.
That statewide list helps explain why a Cherokee County case may lead to a prison location outside Cherokee County after sentencing.
Cherokee County VINE Alerts
SC VINE and VINELink are notification tools, not replacements for the jail roster. SC VINE says it monitors adult offenders in participating county detention centers, SCDC, and other state systems, with data updates every 15 minutes from participating systems. Search fields include offender name, optional middle initial or date of birth, or offender number. Phone access is 1-866-727-2846.
The VINELink portal is the public web entry point for custody-status searches and notifications.
Use VINE for status alerts, then verify urgent release, transfer, or bond questions with the agency that currently holds the person.
Cherokee County Federal Lookup
Federal and immigration records are separate from Cherokee County jail records. BOP inmate lookup is for sentenced federal prisoners. ICE ODLS is for immigration custody and searches by A-Number with country of birth or by biographical information. Federal pretrial detainees may be held under U.S. Marshals authority and may not appear in BOP until after sentencing.
The BOP inmate locator is the federal sentenced-prisoner source, not a Cherokee County jail roster.
For immigration custody, use ICE ODLS. For federal pretrial custody, use the federal court case, counsel, and U.S. Marshals routing.
Important: Cherokee County jail records, SCDC records, BOP records, ICE records, and VINE alerts are separate systems. Search the system that matches the person's current custody.
